A Research Associate position in olefin polymerisation catalysis is available within the Synthesis & Catalysis section of the Department of Chemistry to work on the development of new catalyst systems for the polymerisation of olefins.
What you would be doing
This is an industrially sponsored project in collaboration with Borealis for the duration of two years. You are expected to collaborate with other team members within the research group and with Borealis on developing catalyst systems for olefin polymerisation.
What we are looking for
We are looking for candidates with experience in the following areas:
- Synthesis or organometallic compounds
- Purification and characterisation of organometallic compounds
- Air-free synthesis including the use of Schlenk lines and glove boxes
- Polymerisation catalysis
- High pressure equipment
- NMR, GPC and other polymer analysis
- Catalyst supports.
You will hold a PhD in chemistry or equivalent qualification. Experience with synthesis and characterisation of organometallic compounds is particularly required. A good working knowledge of polymer characterisation and olefin polymerisation catalysis and high-pressure autoclaves are desirable.
What we can offer you
- The opportunity to continue your career at a world-leading institution and be part of our mission to continue science for humanity
- Benefit from sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 39 days off a year and generous pension schemes)
- Get access to a range of workplace benefits including a flexible working policy from day 1, generous family leave packages, on-site leisure facilities and a cycle-to-work scheme
- Interest-free season ticket loan schemes for travel
- Be part of a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative work culture with various staff networks and resources designed to support your personal and professional wellbeing.
