UKRI Global Talent Fund initiative: Global Talent Senior Research Fellows and Professors at Cardiff

Cardiff University is seeking a talented mix of high-profile, innovative current and future leaders of research to join our values-driven, pioneering, and vibrant university.

We are seeking international applicants currently living and working outside the UK, as part of our allocation of the UKRI Global Talent Fund initiative.

As part of our ambitious new strategy, Our Future Together, we are strengthening our global presence through pioneering research, international collaboration, and regional impact. Our vision is to be globally recognised for translational excellence and innovation that delivers real-world benefits for future generations.

Cardiff is the only university in Wales to be awarded money from the Global Talent Fund to recruit international researchers, alongside 12 other UK universities. The funding covers research, relocation, and visa costs for international researchers and their families.

We are recruiting for two types of roles:

Successful candidates will accelerate our research leadership in key strategic areas aligned to three UK industrial strategy areas including:

Clean energy systems, industries, and catalysis

We are helping to generate, supply and use clean, renewable energy.

We are creating a more sustainable environment by making chemical processes for manufacturing cleaner, faster and more efficient.

We aim to advance green energy systems and play a key role in addressing the increasing demand for sustainable and low-carbon technologies while reducing environmental impact and ensuring a sustainable environment. We want to revolutionise net-zero production through advanced catalytic processes, from fuels to medicines and materials, driving net-zero solutions in support of sustainability targets.

Who we’re looking for

We're seeking skilled engineers who are dedicated to advancing low-carbon technologies such as hydrogen, renewable energy systems, and sustainable energy transitions. Ideal candidates will work through industrial and stakeholder engagement, including impact on policy.

We’re seeking chemists who combine deep expertise in catalysis with a passion for industrial impact. Ideal candidates will drive research that accelerates cleaner, more efficient chemical processes, working closely with industry partners to deliver scalable solutions.

Eligibility

To apply as either a Senior Research Fellow or a Professor, you must:

  • currently live and work outside of the UK
  • not have lived and worked in the UK for at least 24 months
  • have a significant portfolio of research in one of our priority areas.

The successful candidates will be well-established in their fields and have a significant portfolio of research with an established track record of publication and research grants, and a national, emerging, or international reputation in their chosen research area.

Importantly, successful candidates will have the ability to drive areas of research and innovation aligned to the industrial strategy in partnership with external partners and other disciplines.

Applications will close at 23:59 on 20 March 2026
