A position exists, for a Research Assistant in the Department of Engineering, to work on materials development for energy technologies.
The post holder will be located in Central Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.
The key responsibilities and duties are:
- Materials synthesis (thin film deposition, incipient wetness, solid-state synthesis) and characterization.
- Materials testing (microscopy, gas chromatograph, mass spectrometer) Characterization of materials with focus in: Crystallinity of the materials Surface structure
- Stability of the structure
- Writing of progress reports to fulfil the requirements of the grant and contribution to research publications of the University's Energy Group.
- Liaison and collaboration with members of the Energy Group and other research teams within the University Organisation and attendance to project relevant meetings with other academic and industrial participants.
- Contribution to the preparation of proposals and applications for funding to external bodies, such as the European Commission and the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)
The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are: A postgraduate degree at Masters level and above in a relevant discipline such as Chemistry, Physics, Electrical, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
Knowledge of graphene, catalysis, and emissions removal. Ability to conduct research independently and with minimal supervision.
The candidate should be able to:
- Communicate technical content across specialist and non-specialist audiences
- Structure and present technical project reports
The candidate should have:
- Research experience, for example via a dissertation thesis, in device
- Experience in analysing measurement data
This position can be full-time or part-time, requiring 75% minimum hours for part-time.
Salary ranges: Research Assistant: £33,002 - £35,608
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
