Expertise:

My expertise is in protein biochemistry and enzymatic catalysis. Within this field, I have a keen interest in the discovery of novel enzymes, in protein engineering and in enzyme characterisation.

This requires a broad spectrum of experimental techniques including: recombinant protein expression and purification; enzyme library generation and screening; functional characterisation assays; spectroscopy (UV visible absorbance, circular dichroism, FTIR); protein immobilisation; protein conjugation; mass spectrometry; structure modelling and in silico sequence analysis; protein crystallization; HPLC and gas chromatography; molecular biology (cloning, mutagenesis, PCR, RT-PCR, Real Time PCR, DNA sequencing); microbiology (strain isolation, molecular identification); bio-electrochemistry. The main model system of my research are oxygen sensitive enzymes called [FeFe]-hydrogenases. As a consequence, I also have expertise in working under strict anaerobic conditions.
