Surface Chemistry:
Interested in the fundamental surface processes that underlie phenomena such as catalysis, corrosion and adhesion. These are influenced by many different factors and our work therefore encompasses aspects such as the elemental composition, chemistry and topography of a surface. Our expertise includes:Ā· Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) for imaging conducting surface structures at atomic resolutionĀ· Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) for imaging non-conductors from the nanometre to the micrometer levelĀ· X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) which provides chemical information on the surface.
Photocatalysis:
Interested in the fundamental mechanism that underpin photocatalysis. We study photocatalytic conversion of aqueous systems, deposited layers and gas phase species using Uv-Vis, FTIR, GC-MS and LC-MS. We have a particular interest in the effects of interfering ions such as chlorides and sulfides.
