JSPS provides fellowship programs for overseas researchers who have an excellent record of research achievements to conduct collaborative research, discussions, and opinion exchanges with researchers in Japan. The programs are intended to help advance the overseas researchers' research activities while promoting science and internationalization in Japan.
The “JSPS International Fellowships for Research in Japan” consists of two programs: “Postdoctoral Fellowships for Research in Japan” for young researchers and “Invitational Fellowships for Research in Japan” for mid-career and senior researchers.
Summer Program
To provide opportunities for pre- / post-doctoral researchers from the US, Canada, and Europe to receive an orientation on Japanese culture and research systems and to pursue research under the guidance of host researchers in universities and other Japanese institutions.
Short-term Program (PE)
To provide opportunities for pre-/post-doctoral researchers from the US, Canada and Europe to conduct, under the guidance of their hosts, cooperative research with leading research groups in universities and other Japanese institutions.
Short-term Program (PA)
To provide opportunities for pre-/post-doctoral researchers from ASEAN and Africa to conduct, under the guidance of their hosts, cooperative research with leading research groups in universities and other Japanese institutions.
Standard Program
To provide opportunities for excellent postdoctoral researchers from other countries to conduct, under the guidance of their hosts, cooperative research with leading research groups in universities and other Japanese institutions.
Long-term
To provide opportunities for overseas researchers with excellent records of research achievements to conduct collaborative research with Japanese colleagues through long-term visits.
Short-term
To provide opportunities for overseas researchers with excellent records of research achievements to visit Japan short-term for discussions, opinion exchanges, lectures, and other activities.
Services for Fellow / JSPS Fellows Plaza
JSPS provides support for the Fellows, who come to Japan to attend the JSPS Fellowship Program for Research in Japan and other programs, by offering a guidebook and orientation programs.
In addition, JSPS carries out the Science Dialogue Program that provides JSPS Fellows with opportunities to give lectures in English on their research work at high schools in the vicinity of their Japanese host institutes.
JSPS also supports the Alumni Follow-up Activities to help former JSPS Fellows maintain a network between them after they had completed their Fellowship Programs. The international exchanges between Japan and other countries have been promoted by the Fellows through the activities of Alumni Association. Furthermore, it contributes to foster young overseas researchers who come to Japan with interest.
