The Department of Chemistry at the University of Oxford is seeking an experienced and proactive Research Facilitator to join its research facilitation team. Working closely with the Senior Research Facilitator, the Associate Head of Department for Research, and the Head of Department, you will play a key role in supporting the Department's world-leading research community to secure prestigious fellowships and research funding. This post is fixed term until 31 August 2027
This varied and rewarding role combines strategic research support, grant facilitation and stakeholder engagement. You will provide expert guidance to postdoctoral and early-career researchers pursuing competitive fellowship opportunities, helping them identify suitable funding schemes and develop high-quality applications. You will support applicants throughout the funding process, coordinating internal approvals, facilitating proposal development, arranging mentoring and interview preparation, and ensuring successful candidates transition smoothly into their new roles within the Department.
Alongside fellowship support, you will manage a portfolio of research funding schemes, acting as a central point of contact for applicants, senior academics, Research Services and external funders. You will advise on funding requirements, coordinate application processes, support the development of strategic and collaborative grant proposals, and help promote funding opportunities across the Department. The role also contributes to wider departmental research strategy through horizon scanning, analysis of funding opportunities and support for research excellence initiatives, including preparations for future REF exercises.
We are looking for an individual educated to doctorate level in a science discipline, with a strong understanding of the academic research environment and funding landscape. You will be an excellent communicator with the ability to build productive relationships across a wide range of stakeholders, provide trusted advice, and manage multiple priorities effectively. Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to work independently are essential. Experience of research funding or administration within a university environment would be advantageous, as would a background in Inorganic Chemistry or Physical and Theoretical Chemistry.
This is an excellent opportunity to make a significant contribution to the success of one of the world's leading chemistry departments while supporting the development of the next generation of research leaders.
Application Deadline: 12 noon on 17 July 2026, please upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application. Interviews will be held on 29 July 2026
