This international conference on materials chemistry has been a key meeting in the materials calendar for three decades.
Organised by the Royal Society of Chemistry, the 2027 conference will host leading materials researchers from around the world. It's the flagship event for the RSC Materials Chemistry Community and you can be a part of it.
Oral and poster presentation opportunities are available to researchers of all career stages and we invite you to submit an abstract to make your contribution. The conference promises to be a great forum for materials chemists to network with and build strong collaborations within their community and related disciplines.

Themes
Materials chemistry is inherently multidisciplinary, and MC18 will showcase its full breadth. The programme is arranged into four broad themes, though many topics naturally span more than one. We welcome abstracts across all areas of materials chemistry — computational and experimental — so please select the theme that best fits your work.
Materials for emerging technologies
Development and/or application of inorganic, organic and hybrid materials and composites with notable mechanical, structural (including micro-, meso- and macroporosity), electronic, optical, quantum, magnetic, ferroic, or other properties.
Materials for energy
Studies of materials applied in energy generation, storage and conversion, including but not limited to materials used in solar, nuclear, battery, water splitting, future fuels and emerging energy applications.
Materials for sustainability and the environment
Studies of materials applied towards areas of sustainability including catalysis, recycling, critical materials use, purification and separation, environmental remediation, carbon capture and storage, and novel green chemistry towards net zero.
Soft matter, biomaterials and bioapplications
Studies related to the synthesis, characterisation and application of natural and synthetic soft materials, and hard biomaterials, and the application of all materials in biotechnology and biomedicine.
We welcome abstracts covering topical enabling tools (e.g. AI, advanced characterisation) and materials classes (e.g. nanomaterials) that transcend these themes. We also welcome novel approaches to prediction, synthesis, characterisation and measurement across all four themes.
