Vision

The Catalysis Hub was created with EPSRC funding with the aims:

  • To establish a world-leading, comprehensive and coordinated programme of catalytic science in the UK.
  • To develop new knowledge and promote innovation in and translation of catalytic science and technology.
  • Enabling the UK to regain and retain a world leading position in catalysis.

The UK Catalysis Hub brings together a vibrant, inclusive, and multidisciplinary research community, working collaboratively to deliver world-class catalytic science and to support the UK’s transition to a more sustainable, low-carbon economy.

Our vision is to establish a world-leading, comprehensive, and coordinated programme of catalytic science in the UK, with a strong emphasis on innovation, impact, and knowledge exchange.

We aim to develop new fundamental and applied insights in catalysis, supporting the creation of cleaner technologies, more efficient chemical processes, and transformative solutions to major societal challenges—particularly in the pursuit of Net Zero.

We are committed to supporting the development, translation, and industrial application of catalytic science, enabling the UK to both regain and retain its world-leading position in catalysis.

Through strategic partnerships, open collaboration, and strong connections with national facilities, we ensure that UK researchers have access to the resources, infrastructure, and networks needed to succeed on the global stage.

Ethos

A defining feature of the Hub’s ethos is its focus on multi-institutional and multidisciplinary collaboration. All research projects supported by the Hub are co-created by teams from multiple institutions and disciplines, bringing together diverse expertise to tackle complex, high-impact challenges. These are projects that go beyond what can be achieved by a single postdoctoral researcher or principal investigator in one lab—they are ambitious, collaborative, and internationally competitive.

The Hub actively promotes an open and inclusive community. We operate an open membership model and welcome all researchers across the UK with an interest in catalysis—from early-career academics to senior investigators, and across all fields of chemistry, chemical engineering, biology, physics, and data science. Whether your focus is fundamental research or industrial application, you are invited to engage with the UK Catalysis Hub, collaborate through our flexible funding schemes, participate in our events, and contribute to our national programme of research.

By bringing together a critical mass of expertise and fostering deep collaboration across institutions, sectors, and disciplines, the UK Catalysis Hub serves as a national focal point for catalysis research, delivering excellence in science, building the next generation of researchers, and creating real-world impact for the UK and beyond.
