We are looking for a highly motivated post-doc to work on a collaborative project between the School of Biology and School of Chemistry at Edinburgh. We aim to use modern synthetic biology approaches to enable bacteria to perform hydroformylation reactions. This exciting project is a new collaboration between Amanda Jarvis and Stephen Wallace, two UKRI Future Leader Fellows at University of Edinburgh, funded by the UK Catalysis Hub with support from a number of industrial collaborators. This post will primarily involve the metabolic engineering of E. coli to produce metabolites for use in industrial synthesis.
The successful candidate is expected to be active in developing the project, to collaborate with all team members, and to contribute to the mentoring/training of PhD students and project students. The candidate will benefit from training in the vibrant scientific environment provided by the Schools of Chemistry and Biological Sciences in Edinburgh, as well as in the laboratories of our international partners. The appointed researcher will also join the Centre for Synthetic and Systems Biology at the University of Edinburgh (https://www.ed.ac.uk/biology/synthsys). More information about the Jarvis and Wallace groups can be found here (www.amandajarvis.ac.uk and http://wallacelab.bio.ed.ac.uk). Informal enquiries can be made to amanda.jarvis@ed.ac.uk and Stephen.Wallace@ed.ac.uk.
