Scheme 2 – Short-Term Feasibility Studies with Industry
Proof of Concept Funding to support Early Career Researchers at the transition to independent academic careers by enabling short, focused proof-of-concept projects that generate critical preliminary data. The aim is to de-risk new ideas, build confidence and evidence, and directly support future fellowship or first-grant applications aligned with UK Catalysis Hub III priorities.
Applicant Eligibility
Applicants must comply with the standard EPSRC terms for eligibility to hold research grants, And be based at a eligible institution. In addition Applicants must have held an academic post for less that 8 years ( accounting for any career breaks)
Eligible organisations include( please check UKRI for full criteria) :
all UK higher education institutions that receive grant funding from one of the UK higher education funding bodies
some research institutes
NHS bodies with research capacity
UKRI-approved independent research organisations
Financial arrangements are in place.
What We Fund
Scheme 2 – Short-Term Feasibility Studies with Industry
Travel, consumables, and salary up to 100% total £16,318.55, 80% total £13,054.84 for 1- 3 month projects
Industry letter of support including co-funding details
Head if Department Letter of support
Projects should focus on translation, IP development, and commercial pathways for Hub discoveries
2-page CV (narrative format encouraged)
Applicants will be expected to engage with Hub activities including events, meetings ECF. It is also expected the applicant will report on the project, its outcomes and what it has enabled
