Receiving funding for your own research project is a significant milestone as an Early Career Researcher but figuring out how to approach the application process and which funding schemes to apply for can be a minefield. In this talk I will discuss these issues illustrated by my own history of applying both successfully and unsuccessfully for funding. The talk will encourage the audience to develop an actionable strategy for building a track record of successful grant applications from an early stage in their research careers.
Biography
Dr Claire Dancer is Reader in the Warwick Manufacturing Group, University of Warwick and leads research in ceramic processing and characterisation. She is the Co-Investigator of the EPSRC UK Metamaterials Network and of the Warwick Analytical Sciences Centre. Her own research group is or has been funded by EPSRC (New Investigator Award, New Horizons Award), the Royal Society (Research Grant), the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, Innovate UK, the European Regional Development Fund, and by industry. Her research activities span a broad range of technology readiness levels, from fundamental studies to industrial deployment of technology. Her research interests are focused on reducing energy consumption in ceramic processing techniques, and on developing more effective routes to manufacture structures (such as metamaterials) which contain multiple materials which must be co-processed.
