Postdoctoral Fellow in heterogeneous catalysis at The Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion (MPI CEC)

The Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion (MPI CEC) in MĂŒlheim an der Ruhr studies fundamental chemical processes for energy storage in chemical molecules.

The Carbon2Chem project, which is funded by the federal ministry of education and research, focuses on the success of the “Energiewende”. Especially exhaust gases from steel mill plants are planned to be used as synthesis gas for chemical processes. A close collaboration with numerous partners from chemical industry, steel industry, energy partners as well as academic partners will be mandatory.

The position is to be filled as soon as possible and is initially for one year with the possibility of an extension to the follow-up project. For the work, located in our laboratory in Oberhausen, we are searching for a Postdoctoral Fellow (f/m/d) – Heterogeneous catalysis.

Your task

  • Operation of kinetic flow set-ups for the investigation of methanol synthesis on Cu-based catalysts
  • Conceptual planning and development of measurement series to expand the parameter space for a methanol synthesis catalyst
  • Scientific support of the characterization of catalysts for methanol synthesis
  • Interface-role to other sub-projects of the cluster and preparation of their results for the own sub-project
  • Information and communication within the project

Your qualifications

  • Completed scientific higher education, doctorate in natural sciences or engineering with a focus on chemistry, chemical engineering or process engineering
  • Preferably relevant work experience in the fields of chemistry, metallurgy or engineering
  • Experience in dealing with kinetic investigations, catalyst characterization as well as experience in the field of modeling with MatLab and Aspen advantageous
