Research Associate position at Keele University

This post represents an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to join a team of staff in Keele University’s Faculty of Natural Sciences.  The faculty is responsible for the School of Chemical and Physical Sciences. A postdoctoral research associate position is available within the groups of Dr Sebastian C. Cosgrove & Prof. Gavin J. Miller, to carry out research on a project funded by the EPSRC UK Catalysis Hub. This innovative project is in the area of biocatalysis, and the research will involve contributing to the development of novel oxidase enzymes for application towards long-chain alcohol oxidation. Applicants must have a PhD (or have submitted a thesis prior to taking up the appointment) in organic synthesis, chemical biology or biochemistry. Experience in enzyme engineering and bioprocess optimisation is highly desirable. Applicants will have excellent communication skills, the ability to work independently, and have an organised approach to the management of their research.

The project is a collaboration with Prof. Nicholas J. Turner’s group at the University of Manchester, and industrial sponsors Croda. The post is available for 12 months and the successful candidate will benefit from training across all partners in the project, including research visits & joint meetings. The role will also involve supervision of PhD and Masters-level students.
